Dr Carmen Apostu MD MBChB MRCPsych
Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Carmen Apostu is a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist (medical doctor) who specialises in assessing and treating patients with neurodevelopmental conditions (such as ADHD and Autism) though is also able to assess and treat for other general psychiatric disorders. She has a long career in the NHS were she currently works alongside her role here at The Giaroli Centre, with deep clinical experience both in community services and inpatient settings.
Her neurodevelopmental (ADHD and Autism) expertise over many years has encompassed comprehensive extended assessments, including in that of day hospital settings, for particularly complex neurodevelopmental cases. Her tailored approach to assessment and treatment includes a focus on delivering a holistic approach to supporting others founded on practical solutions alongside appropriate medication and psychological interventions.
Dr Apostu collaborates in our centre’s multidisciplinary setting which delivers the ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised) or 3Di (Developmental, Dimensional & Diagnostic Interview) as pioneered by the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, for formal diagnoses of Autism where required.
Dr Apostu completed both her medical degree (MBBS / MD) and her psychology degree (BSc) in Romania. After moving to the UK, she completed her higher speciality training in child and adolescent psychiatry at the prestigious Great Ormond Street Hospital (London) and Royal London Hospital higher training programme.
Dr Apostu has been involved in numerous research projects and was a national rater for the British CAMHS Survey in 2018. In her current NHS post, alongside her role here at The Giaroli Centre she takes a very active role in the training and supervising of the next generation of junior doctors.
Dr Apostu’s General Medical Council (GMC) registration is 6150417 and she is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
