Dr Carmen Morcillo MD
Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Maria Carmen Morcillo Penalver (Dr Carmen Morcillo) is a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist (medical doctor) who trained in child & adolescent (CAMHS) psychiatry in Cambridge and Wessex (UK) following her move to the UK in 2012.
Alongside young people with neurodevelopmental conditions (such as ADHD and Autism) that Dr Moricllo supports here at The Giaroli Centre she also works in the National Health Service (NHS) as a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist, where she has been based in Hampshire since 2016. Her deep experience covers both outpatient and inpatient settings and currently she treats a wide variety of psychiatric conditions including ADHD and Autism in her role in the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) of Southampton (UK).
Earlier in Dr Morcillo’s career she also trained as a general adult psychiatrist in Madrid, Spain, where she completed her training in adult psychiatry in 2008 before moving to the UK to specialise in child and adolescent psychiatry. She was then awarded a competitive Koplowitz fellowship to complete a 3-year clinical and research fellowship at the prestigious Columbia University, Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, USA.
Dr Morcillo is also the lead for undergraduate medical education for CAMHS in Southampton. She has a passion for teaching and ensuring that children, young people and their carers get the best possible quality care.
Dr Morcillo has authored/co-authored several research papers in top international psychiatric journals such as the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the American Journal of Psychiatry.
Dr Morcillo is a member of the faculty of the training course in child and adolescent psychiatry endorsed by the European Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (ESCAP).
Dr Morcillo is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian and her General Medical Council (GMC) registration is 7273835
