Dr Edoardo Ostinelli MD
Consultant Adult Psychiatrist
Dr Edoardo Ostinelli is a Consultant Psychiatrist (medical doctor) specialising in supporting adults with neurodevelopmental conditions (such as ADHD and Autism) alongside his latest clinical research at The University of Oxford. Since becoming a Consultant Psychiatrist, Dr Ostinelli has built an extensive academic and research career, he is currently based at The University of Oxford.
In addition to diagnosing and treating patients here at The Giaroli Centre, Dr Ostinelli is a Senior Researcher & Deputy Lead at the prestigious Oxford Precision Psychiatry Lab (OxPPL), Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford. At Oxford University he is also undertaking a PhD in Psychiatry alongside his research. He also holds an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist position in the Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.
HIs focus is on the implementation of evidence-based medicine in real-world practice, working closely with experts and collaborators in precision medicine, statistics, and clinical decision-making (Universities of Bern, Kyoto, London, Munich, Ottawa, Tokyo, and Toronto).
Dr Ostinelli is reading for a NIHR DPhil in Psychiatry and his doctoral project is funded by the NIHR Oxford and Thames Valley Applied Research Collaboration OTV ARC, a collaboration of health and social care focused organisations (including universities, local NHS trusts, councils and charities). The NIHR OTV ARC is hosted by Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust and led by the University of Oxford’s Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Science.
During 2022, Dr Ostinelli developed the PETRUSHKA web tool in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science at the University of Oxford. The PETRUSHKA tool is an online interactive clinical decision support system (CDSS) which seeks to individualise treatment for people experiencing low mood. For those patients who consent, Dr Ostinelli is currently testing the PETRUSHKA tool at the University of Oxford in a randomised controlled trial across the UK, Canada, and Brazil, of which he is the Lead Investigator for the UK. In particular, Dr Ostinelli is focusing on the outcomes associated with medical treatment, how to predict their occurrence, and how to communicate their risk.
Dr Ostinelli lectures on different subject areas related to psychiatry and research methodology for the MSc Clinical and Therapeutic Neuroscience Course within the University of Oxford; precision mental health at the Master in Evidence-based therapeutic approaches and evaluation methods for prevention and early intervention in mental health at the University of Verona, Italy.
His highly collaborative approach to patient diagnosis and treatment is to follow the latest international research and evidence-based approaches, and draw upon his deep research links, to ensure his patients always benefit from the very latest evidence based approaches as part of their treatment and care.
Dr Ostinelli’s General Medical Council (GMC) registration is 7765309 and he is on the Specialist Register for General Psychiatry. Dr Ostinelli is also registered as a Specialist Associate with the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
