Dr Julio Vaquerizo MD MSc
Consultant Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist
Dr Julio Vaquerizo is a Consultant Child & Adolescent and Adult Psychiatrist (medical doctor) renowned for his expertise in both Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and General Psychiatry, with a particular focus on neurodevelopmental conditions such as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He is an enthusiastic, motivated and passionate clinician, who stands out for his empathy and warmth as well as his ability to engage with his patients and their families.
Before joining The Giaroli Centre, Dr Vaquerizo worked at the renowned Maudsley Hospital (South London & Maudsley NHS Trust), gaining invaluable expertise in highly specialized NHS Tier 4 services. His roles included positions at the Child & Adolescent Adoption and Fostering Service (CAFT), the Centre for Interventional Paediatric Psychopharmacology and Rare Diseases (CIPPRD), and the Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (CAMHS PICU) at the Bethlem Royal Hospital (London). Additionally, he was part of the liaison team at King’s College Hospital, where he managed complex mental health cases. He also worked in a Tier 3 service at West London NHS Trust within the neurodevelopmental team, specializing in the assessment and treatment of young people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and tics.
Beyond his work with children and adolescents, Dr Vaquerizo has significant experience treating adults. He has worked in various mental health teams, including inpatient and outpatient services, psychiatric emergency departments, adult liaison psychiatry, and specialized autism care for adults.
Dr Vaquerizo graduated in Medicine from the University of Alcalá (Madrid) and specialized in General Psychiatry at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital (Madrid). He was awarded a two-year advanced training fellowship at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London (IoPPN), and Maudsley Hospital, where he contributed to both clinical and research projects in the departments of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Psychosis Studies. During this time, he also served as a tutor for master’s students in child and adolescent mental health, supervising dissertations and providing academic support. He then completed a second specialty in child & adolescent psychiatry, further enhancing his expertise in treating young patients.
Dr Vaquerizo holds three master’s degrees: Forensic Psychiatry (Complutense University, Madrid), Mood Disorders (University of Alcalá, Madrid), and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (University of Barcelona). His training has provided him with a robust understanding of psychiatric care across the lifespan.

Here at The Giaroli Centre, Dr Vaquerizo plays a key role in our collaborative multidisciplinary autism assessments, utilizing tools such as ADOS-2 (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) and ADI-R (Autism Diagnostic Interview Revised) and 3Di (Developmental, Dimensional & Diagnostic Interview) as developed by the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. He also provides pharmacological and psychotherapeutic interventions tailored to individual patient needs. Dr Vaquerizo’s expertise extends to Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Behavioural Therapy for Tics and Tourette’s Syndrome, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). His deep understanding of psychopharmacology ensures that patients receive the most effective, research-based treatments available. In addition to his clinical role, Dr Vaquerizo serves as the safeguarding lead for our team, having completed specific training in this area, including Trauma-Informed Practice in Safeguarding and the Child Safeguarding Advanced Training Course.

Dr Vaquerizo has presented at numerous national and international conferences and remains engaged in ongoing research and clinical advancements in psychiatry, being committed to delivering high-quality, individualized care, Dr Vaquerizo is dedicated to supporting the mental well-being of his patients and their families.
Outside of his clinical work, Dr Vaquerizo has a strong interest in literature, languages, music, and theatre, which provide both enrichment and balance to my professional life. He also enjoys travelling, as it allows him to explore different cultures and perspectives. Staying active is important to him, and he regularly engages in sports, with a particular passion for surfing.
Dr Vaquerizo is fluent in Spanish and English and currently learning Italian at an upper-intermediate level.
Dr Vaquerizo is fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC 7758611) and holds Section 12(2) Approval and Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act.
