Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist
Dr Bethany (Rosie) Hay is a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist (medical doctor) who specialises in neurodevelopmental conditions, including ADHD and Autism as well as associated comorbid conditions, such as anxiety, Tics and Tourette’s, depression and OCD. Dr Hay also supports families as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist for the NHS Gloucestershire’s Children’s Autism and ADHD Assessment Service (CAAAS) , as well as specialising in ADHD and Autism here at The Giaroli Centre.
During Dr Hay’s training in child and adolescent psychiatry, she dedicated her special interest time to working in neurodevelopmental assessment services in different trusts within the NHS to assess for ADHD and Autism with a range of presentations including subtle and complex presentations for ADHD and Autism. Dr Hay feels passionately about the recognition, inclusion and provision of support for neurodivergent young people with ADHD and/or Autism and the network around them, so that they can thrive in all aspects of their lives.
Dr Hay’s approachable, warm and friendly manner means that she builds good relationships with young people and their families.
Dr Hay completed her medical training at Brighton and Sussex Medical School in 2010. This followed completion of a degree in Biology from the University of Southampton and a period of working in research at Southampton University. During her foundation years she completed a Masters in ‘Legal Aspects of Medical Practice’ (LL.M) at Cardiff University, which furthered her interest in mental health and the ethical basis of medical practise. She has also completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and Management at the University of Plymouth, which she has used to support the development of the NHS Gloucestershire’s Children’s Autism and ADHD Assessment Service (CAAAS).
Dr Hay was awarded the Margaret Davenport Prize from the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Faculty, Royal College of Psychiatrists, for her research “The impact of routines on emotional and behavioural difficulties in children and on parental anxiety during COVID-19” Front. Dr Hay’s General Medical Council (GMC) registration is 7082570 and she is on the Specialist Register for Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Hay is also a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (RCPsych).
